  1. I am currently self employed or unemployed independent IT Contractor. I work when I am contacted for work by at contract agency. Most of this work is W2 but the jobs only last from a day or two to several months with the longest being a year and a half. My experience has taken me to pharmaceuticals, communications, plastics, appliances, healthcare, financial services, realty offices and several others.

In my experience, I would advise that many times the company or organization would prefer to limit access to social media sites because of the potential risk it could invite with Denial of Service attacks, Intrusions, or loss of data. The risk of information getting into the wrong hands is greater on this kind of system. Some of these companies that use providers have gone with internal social media sites that do not interact with the outside ones. I have used real-time chat and interactive blogs for several years where collaboration and sharing of ideas and resources can occur over large distances.

Cost to proprietary and private information in many instances is at greater risk with the more channels they have open to the internet. Without extra or dedicated bandwidth to these collaboration resources networks can become bogged down.

  4. Resources at the enterprise or corporate level are expensive. Management needs to establish goals for establishing social culture at the office. Their pokies must be established for ths majority with case by case resolution for the lesser group. Guidelines seem to be more intangible or unwritten for newer technologies. Real time chat seems to work well when these guidelines are followed. This allows for a collective brain to bounce ideas off of. Collaboration flourishes.

  5. Please Join and follow my blog so it becomes successful. More to post about social media.

Today I watched Dr. Phil and his message was about online and in person bullying. Why do the worst things in life go viral and items we wish would go viral die like rotten fruit or melons on a vine. Our society grasp at the negatives and does support the positives. He had a 12 year old girl on his show that was beaten up physically by 1 or two other girls who were slightly older and one that filmed all of this and sent a tweet about it posted the video on Facebook. The video taping was evidence against the perps and some of the parents were outraged at the victim --but in reality they need to be outraged at their children for hurting another child .... They should all be taught a lesson. If you agree with me please speak out here ---this is a blog about social media both positive and negative and this is truly a negative result of video gone viral .... The good thing in all this is that the evidence of the video was what caught them and got them arrested. AMEN to that!!

  6. My business type for my project is museums:

Much of the information I have experienced for this comes from sources that have already determined the copyright ownership as well as artistic license.

It is not advisable to create an atmosphere of a historical nature like a military museum by embellishing a story and calling it creative license or artistic license. This might be different if the display is a living display similar to Land Btwn the Lakes "The Home Place 1860" which is a working museum in which people dress a part and that role is used to convey how life was like in a different era. This specific museum is a frontier life of an 1860's Kentucky community that was living off the land and developing a community. Or another possibility would be a living or action historical battle that people re-enact the battle and might embellish somewhat to convey the tragedy of battle. Marketing seems to be geared at least on line to individuals who are interested in historical information or research about a battle or a person that was in a battle. Now a big thing is for a website to promote the attraction as a local or regional museum so that audiences closer to the site can enjoy the tour and not spend money on gas that they cannot afford when driving across the country to sightsee. Training is provided so the experience and the knowledge is available and the tour answers visitors questions effectively. Brochures and web links are available for further research.

  7. Museums are becoming a way to teach. Can you imagine the possibility of future generations of students sitting in a VR module and Augmented Reality is a Virtual Dive to the Titanic or The Bismark or to move across the bottom of the Marianas Trench in the Pacific Basin. What about a VR exploration of the Edmund Fitzgerald, which is at the bottom of Lake Superior in 500 feet of water. Lets use ROV to explore caves that may be two risky for humans to go into. Learning the science and technology related to this will only make this thing more economical and more readily available in the future. How about the VR exploration of our outer planets using the "Voyager Interactive Classroom" . The possibilities here are endless and we are only touching the surface.

    1. Doug,
Museums can be so much more than a static display created in the 1960's. True VR using VR specific equipment is one to accomplish the sense of being there. Second Life would or Open Sim would be great tools to create a virtual museum and all you need is a computer and Internet connections.

Also, 3D graphic software can be used to create or recreate moments in time with a combination of 3D objects, textures, colors, and lighting. These images can then be turned into a mini animated film.

    2. HI Lanka, I know ---I find the stuff going on in virtual harmony stimulating and invigorating at the possibilities that lie ahead of us. Dioramas are neat as well ---showing life in a different way than we are familiar with. .... Epcot was fascinating when I was there .... it is sad that Mr. Disney could not be around to see his vision come to fruition and its also goo that he did not see how Disney has turned out in other ways. They lost his vision somewhere in the money ....

    3. Hi Lanka, thanks for responding and I apologize for my slow reply.

I agree with you and intend to develop in VH soon.

  8. Some people find these museum sites and role plays are good alternative to the "entertainment" being offered elsewhere.

    1. I prefer them to regular television. I find my self going to Netflix and watching documentaries rather than mainstream TV because Mainstream has nothing to offer anyone except Sex and Violence and more of the same in various orders of the previous ... ... At least with some of the war documentaries I watch the violence has a purpose its just not blood and guts for entertainment sake.... it tells a valuable story or "his"tory ...

  9. I have always been a fan of museums, my favorite is the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles, California.
I agree that virtual tours of shipwrecks and other phenomena would be very educational, especially if one can see everything in VR.
While researching other topics, I discovered this cool 3D Ocean, Landscape, and Space interactive software recently released into the wild. I think you might enjoy the software because it provides underwater, internal earth, and space images:

  10. I every one .... My favorites are the Air and space museums and the natural history museums ... The idea of creatures so large once walking or swimming around our planet fascinates me. When you go to Colorado Springs ... take a look at the Dinosaur exhibits at the Rocky Mountain Dinosaur resource center in Woodland Park Co. ITs amazing.

  11. Museums are a way we can work with the past without getting steamrolled by the present through lies and deceit that our government doles out. We are constantly under the thumb of dishonest politicians and a step away from the real world sometimes gives us a glimpse of the history that is now repeating itself.

  12. Many Museums are using social media and the web to generate followings to create funding avenues for further development. In addition to various obvious social media platforms, museums are developing webrings and niche groups that discuss specific historical or scientific points in a FAQ or WIKI format that generate quite a bit of buzz among patrons, followers, and supporters. Many have created societies or groups around specific topics of history or science that assist in developing research and theories that previously may have been lost to lack of connections. The media outlets used bring communities closer together and develop forums which attract many intelligent conversations and ideas that are later picked up and used by other museums or organizations to develop their purpose and gain support from their patrons.

  13. AS I ponder the description and relevancy of the issues with social media and museums I realize that I am forming an interest in this issue as a possible topic for my future writings and dissertations. I have a large collection of photos, writings, research, and knowledge surrounding three major American War era's. I have personal links to all 3.

My Mom's family was from Virginia and North Carolina and predates the Revolutionary war. The main component there in was "The Duke of Montserrat" who fought with Lafayette and against the British. My Moms family had links to the Revolutionary War and to the Civil War. Her maiden name was Surratt. That will bring up all kinds of hits if you do a Google Search about the Civil War.

My Dads Family came over in the mid 1800's to avoid religious persecution and gain religious freedoms that the "new world" conveyed. His uncle-my great uncle--Charles-- was a B-24 Pilot During WWII and was shot down over Hamburg Germany on Oct 30, 1944. Out of 11 crew only 8 survived. My great uncle was among the dead. He would have had a furlough after the mission he perished on but he did not make it. He was KIA during his 25th mission. It is with this information that I choose my next topic. Advancing Museums and Galleries through the use and conveyance of ideas using Emerging technologies and social media.

This has already aided quite a few organizations to generate enough interest to keep their historical message alive. We are seeing a rise in interest as older boomers realize that their heritage has been wrapped in patriotism and efforts their parents gave to the cause to eradicate world domination by the AXIS powers. More soon!

  14. Another aspect of research I take interest in is genealogy. Most family trees sites have a way to add photographs and stories and this in itself becomes a virtual museum specific to their personal heritage and family history. Then as other people generate an interest in this they can come back and view the site and add their branch or update the site much like a wiki allows.

  15. What I think would be neat is to add sound and video clips for those individuals who would want to so we could hear voices of our loved ones and see them in action .... Facebook is like this in someways but is not as private as something like this should be .... This would be for a persons heritage and not for mass public viewing unless the individual was a historical figure or had a public image to sustain.

  16. Cemetery Sites may touch on this but I mean something that would be a lasting tribute to the individual in the information age....

  17. I have reached out to some individuals on a Facebook forum I follow to assist them with finding information and data about their loved ones war records in WW II. Mainly, this is dealing with Air crew members.

  18. Doug, in stead of just posing comments, you will get more traffic via searches if you start a new topic with a searchable heading.
